Description:

Prenatal exposure to alcohol is the leading cause of preventable birth defects and developmental delays in Canadian children (Health Canada, Sept 2006) (http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/iyh-vsv/diseases- maladies/fasd-etcaf_e.html).

Prevention of prenatal exposure to alcohol is a pressing concern. Physicians who work with women prior to and during pregnancy have an important role in asking about alcohol use, providing appropriate advice, and in helping women change their drinking behaviour. This training program provides important information on clinical practices related to assessing and influencing alcohol use in pregnancy.
