Description:

Through a series of case studies, this course provides best practices in preparedness, early detection and response to notifiable and emerging infectious diseases.

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain how the health system works, particularly during an infectious disease outbreak, including the legal framework, reporting requirements, and the role of public health.
  2. Clarify the roles and responsibilities and activities of front-line clinicians, public health practitioners, and laboratory professionals in the event of a notifiable or emerging infectious disease outbreak, with a specific focus on pandemic influenza.
  3. Prepare for, detect, and respond to a notifiable or emerging infectious disease of public health concern and effectively work with other clinicians, public health, and laboratory professionals.
