Bugs, Drugs and Shots (Systemic 2)

Welcome to this web-based course entitled “Bugs, Drugs and Shots”.  This is an interactive review of paediatric infectious diseases which will be provided in nine modules:

  1. Bones & Soft Tissues
  2. Respiratory Part 1
  3. Respiratory Part 2
  4. Neonates
  5. Immunocompromised
  6. Systemic  Part 1
  7. Systemic  Part 2
  8. Central Nervous System
  9. Gastrointestinal-Genitourinary

Each module will have a series of cases, each with a unique diagnosis, as well as tutorials on antimicrobials and immunizations which can be accessed to obtain detailed information about different types of drugs and immunizations.

This module contains cases and tutorials related to Systemic infections that can be encountered in pediatric patients.

Please note: This module is the second of two courses that deal with systemic infections. This topic is further explored in the module titled Bugs, Drugs, and Shots (Systemic 1). You are encouraged to review both modules for a full review of systemic infections.

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Recognize signs and symptoms of common systemic infections.
  2. Know when to order diagnostic investigations in patients with systemic infections.
  3. Describe management of common systemic infections.
  4. Become familiar with preferred antibiotic choices for common systemic infections.
  5. Recognize when subspecialty referrals should be made for patients with systemic infections.
