PTCAP: Common Skills

This module focuses on providing primary care providers(PCPs) with “common skills” - interviewing/counseling skills that can be usedto facilitate an effective mental health conversation with children/families.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe interactive skills that can effectivelyand efficiently identify mental health needs during regular patient visits.
  • Discuss strategies to help prioritize concernsand provide immediate relief to patients for a wide range of commonlyencountered mental health issues.
  • Formulate a mutually agreeable plan withchildren\youth and their families for next steps in their diagnoses andtreatment.

This continuing professional development (CPD) program hasbeen designed to consider the CanMEDSFamily Medicine 2017 Physician Competency Framework, including theroles of:

  • Communicator
  • Advocate

PTCAP: Common Skills

MDcme (on behalf of its consortium partners) protects the privacy of personal and other information regarding course registrants. MDcme collects and reviews all course data (registration/course completion statistics, pre/post-test and satisfaction survey) to determine if a course meets participants' learning needs.
